SENIOR ANALOG IC DESIGN ENGINEER
Firecomms is looking for a Senior Analog IC Design Engineer. This role offers the opportunity to lead and influence the complete development lifecycle of world-class mixed-signal and analog ASICs within a highly agile Irish semiconductor company. Unlike larger multinationals, where engineers are often confined to narrow IP block design, this position provides end-to-end technical ownership — from architecture and specification through design, verification, tape-out, silicon bring-up, characterisation and production release. As a senior engineer in a smaller, high-impact environment, you will have direct visibility and influence on product direction, technical decisions and business outcomes. The breadth of responsibility, autonomy and tangible impact available in this role creates an exceptional career opportunity for someone who wants to build ASICs, and broaden their skills repertoire — not just IP.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, simulate, and verify a wide range of analog circuits for mixed-signal ASICs, including but not limited to:
- Transimpedance Amplifiers (TIAs)
- Limiting Amplifiers
- Laser drivers
- Data converters (ADCs/DACs)
- Voltage and current references, Bandgap references
- Power management units (PMUs)
- PLLs, Oscillators
- Top-level integration
- Carry out layout of critical analog block and supervision of IC Layout engineers.
- Support ASIC top-level design and floor-planning.
- Work with external IC design teams in validating and testing their IC designs.
- Contribute to ASIC characterisation, test and qualification engineering activities.
- Work closely with production engineering teams to successfully release products to manufacturing.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in analog IC design, and relevant industry standards.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in electrical engineering, telecommunications engineering, or a related field.
Job Requirements:
- 5+ years of analog IC design experience.
- Demonstrated portfolio of successful tape-outs, through to production
- In-depth knowledge of semiconductor device physics and analog circuit design fundamentals.
- Ability to create innovative and novel circuits.
- Proficiency with industry-standard EDA tools (e.g., Cadence Virtuoso, Mentor)
- Strong understanding of layout effects, parasitic extraction and on-chip ESD structures
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong analytical mindset.
- Team player and good communicator
Desired Skills:
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience in as many as possible of the following:
- Design of high-speed analog circuits, such as TIAs, limiting amplifiers, comparators, drivers.
- Low noise and low distortion circuit design techniques.
- Design of power management (regulators, monitors, biasing).
- Design of clock generation circuits (PLLs, oscillators)
- Photodiodes, LEDs, RCLEDs.
- Interface circuit design,50 ohm I/O circuits, LVDS, PECL, CML etc.
- Experience with foundry processes such as TSMC, UMC, XFAB.
- Established track record of delivering completed designs into production.
- Experience in working with test teams debugging prototype IC’s.
- Programming in any of C, C++, Verilog, Verilog-A, Verilog-AMS, Python, Visual Basic.
Reporting: The Senior Analog IC Design Engineer will report to the IC Design Manager of Firecomms Ireland.
Travel Requirements: The role does not typically involve travel, but occasional travel may be required.
