FIRECOMMS
UNVEILS HIGH-SPEED TRANSCEIVER FOR INDUSTRIAL DATA LINKS
ECOC 2007, Berlin, Germany — September
17, 2007 — Firecomms
Ltd., a leading compound semiconductor company that develops
high-speed light sources in visible range wavelengths,
today announced that its RCLED-based 650 nm Fast Ethernet
and IEEE 1394 FOTs (Fiber Optic Transceivers) are the light
sources chosen by Molex Incorporated (NASDAQ: MOLX and
MOLXA) for its new plastic optical fiber data link SMI
solutions. This new interconnect system will be showcased
at NXTcomm 2007, booth 3754.Firecomms today announces its
Industrial Data Link (IDL) Fiber Optic Transceiver (FOT)
for fast data communication links over plastic optical
fiber (POF) in industrial environments. This new FOT further
expands the range of Firecomms’ high-speed POF interfaces.
Based
on Firecomms’ proprietary technology for Resonant
Cavity LEDs, this FOT is a 650 nm solution that is compatible
with low voltage differential signaling for seamless integration
into existing logic bus structures. It’s rated for
modulation of 250 Mbps, and is suitable for use in SMI,
IDB and OptoLock™ connectors.
The IDL FOT has electrical
power saving features where the driver IC goes into a sleep
state and the RCLED is switched off if no data or toning
is present on the input bus to the TX. Similarly at the
RX if no optical toning or data signal is present, the
RX IC will switch into a sleep mode and power consumption
is reduced to approximately 40uA.
"Our Industrial
Data Link FOT is ideal for customers who want to take advantage
of our high-speed technology in harsher environments," says
Hugh Hennessy, Firecomms’ vicepresident of global
sales and marketing. "Because it’s built on
a foundation of our automotive technology, this robust
transceiver can be used in rugged industrial networks and
applications, and fast robotics."
The new FOT will
be on display at ECOC 2007 (booth #17025) in Berlin, Germany
on September 17-19 (http://www.ecocexhibition.com).
Firecomms
new Industrial Data Link FOT, series IDL300, is currently
shipping in volume quantities. It also can be ordered in
Firecomms' OptoLock package, IDL300T. These devices
can be ordered through Firecomms' sales organization
(sales@firecomms.com)
in Japan, USA and Europe.
Firecomms
leads the development of devices to drive POF, a low-cost
optical alternative to copper cabling. Due to its ease
of use, large core tolerances, and low costs, POF is enjoying
a huge growth in a wide range of applications. Created
for consumer, industrial, and automotive applications in
which plastic fiber can be used more easily and at lower
cost than copper or glass fiber, POF is now used in millions
of small area networks, such as those in use in many car
models, and is rapidly gaining ground in home network and
point-to-point interconnection. The POF market is estimated
to be worth over $1 billion per year by the end of 2008.
About
Firecomms Ltd.
Firecomms, a compound semiconductor company,
develops high-speed light sources in visible range wavelengths.
Firecomms' lasers and LEDs provide the
groundwork that will revolutionize optical data communications
for small area networks, such as in-car networks and home
networks. Firecomms' low power visible lasers unleash
the potential for advances in medical devices, barcode
scanners, and optical storage devices.
The Ireland-based
company leverages its ten years of photonics research experience,
optical expertise, and extensive IP portfolio to develop
cost-effective solutions for applications in which the
use of glass fiber optics is prohibitively expensive. Additional
